It’s another week, and another opportunity to pause, reflect on the days behind us, and recenter ourselves before we step into the weekend.
This week has been busy — as most weeks are — but there were also a few moments that really stood out.
One of those moments involved my granddaughter. She made a decision that she knew wasn’t the right one. Like many children (and adults, if we’re honest), she was influenced by the people around her. When she came to me, she freely told me what she had done.
In that moment, she trusted me with the truth.
Instead of yelling or punishing her, we talked. We walked through everything — the “why,” the “what,” and the “who.” I told her I was disappointed in the choice she made, but proud of her for telling the truth.
That moment meant more to me than the mistake itself. It reminded me that maybe, just maybe, I’m doing something right. Parenting isn’t about perfection; it’s about teaching, guiding, and leading by example. It’s about helping our children learn the difference between right and wrong and giving them a safe place to be honest when they fall short.
And then today, I experienced what I like to call a little “God wink.”
My Bible study for the day was Romans 7:13–25, which talks about the internal struggle we all face — our human nature pulling us one way while our desire to follow Christ pulls us another.
Part of my study includes journaling and “Praying in Color.” Today I drew storm clouds on the left side of the page and filled them with words like human nature, temptation, and sin. On the right side, I drew the sun shining down — the SON shining down — and wrote words like Christ alone, mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
A little while later, I looked out the window at my office.
And there it was.
Storm clouds on the left side of the sky… and sunlight breaking through blue skies on the right.
It was like my journal page had come to life right in front of me.
What a beautiful reminder that God is always at work. Even when we struggle. Even when temptation pulls at us. Even when we make mistakes.
He is always fighting for us.
Just like the sunlight breaking through the storm, His grace is always stronger than our failures.
📖 Scripture for This Week
Romans 7:24–25
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!…”
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for loving us through every moment — the good choices and the difficult ones. Thank You for Your patience when we struggle and for the grace You offer when we fall short. Help us to recognize the battle between our human nature and Your calling in our lives, and remind us that through Christ, we are never fighting that battle alone. Guide us to be honest, to seek forgiveness, and to trust in Your mercy. And when the storm clouds gather, help us remember that Your light is always breaking through. Amen.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to pause and reflect with me during this week’s Moment of Devotion. I’m grateful that you stopped by, and I pray you notice God’s presence in the ordinary moments of your own week. 🌿
